1969 Ronnie was sponsored by Vick Scandinavia. He started the season by
going to the Tecno-factory to buy a new F3. In his first international F3
race at Monza on the 7:th of April 1969 Ronnie had a great battle with the
Italian Salvati, who ended up spinning after 43 laps. Ronnie had chased him
all the way and on the last 7 laps Ronnie put a lap on rest of the field.
He always liked Monza.

Monaco 17:th of May (25 laps)
Ronnie arrived with three engines (1 liter - 120 hk), and he emediatly
destroyed two of them becouse of lack of oil-pressure.
He had the same problem in Sweden the races before, but then he could just
make it. Now he knew that something must be wrong. So they took everything
apart. Then they found pieces of welding material in the oilpump. They cleaned
everything and the engine was okay! But time was running out and he only manage
to drive 8 laps, but still he got pole position and a new lap record (1.34.3)
!!!In the qualification heat, he took the start easily and won with 12.5
sec. before Jabouille and Depailler. In the other qualifacation heat another
Swede; Reine Wisell (who won F3 in Sweden 1967) started from 5:th position.
But he soon moved up to the lead
and than he never looked back, and won 11.1 sec before Tim Schenken and his
time was 16 sec. quicker than Ronnies!
Everyone now talked about the two
rapid Swedes and who is going to win? Two blond scandinaves with different styles,
Ronnie the ruff sliding type and Reine the cool one who just sneaks past his
opponents. When the race of 24 laps got on it´s way Reines red Chevron tog the
lead before Ronnies Yellow Tecno. The rest of the field - Schenken, Jaussad,
Jabouille, Depailler, Mazet, Beutler, Beckwith - found themselves far behind.
Reine led for the first 5 laps, but on the 6:th Ronnie found a gap and passed
only to be repassed a half lap later. He kept it until lap 14 but out of the
tunnel Ronnie had passed again. Then Reine tried to fight back at the chikane
but he made a small error and hit he strawbales and stopped! He got going
again but he lost about 9 sec. and Ronnie could win in splendid isolation.
Reine finnished second though, and he took the fastest lap; 1.32.4!!!

Ronnie is ahead of Reine in their close battle.
Ronnie after his famous

to be... Ronnie took the start from pole and won easily. Reine got away from
the start last... with clutch troubles. He started to move up through the
field though and reached 4:th place, but then he turned in to the pits and retires.

This was the maiden race on Kinnekulle.
Reine took pole with a time of 54.7 against Ronnie on 55.0. Reine took the
start but they are changing position all the time, sometimes twice a lap! And
when they started the last lap Ronnie was leading but when they are reaching the
last corner Reine is ahead. But he is coming to fast and just slides a little
and thats enough for Ronnie to sneake on the inside and win. Ronnie also took
the fastest lap on 54.3 sec(137.2km/h).

Reine Wisell wins.
Ronnie also won F3 for teams 1969.
Ronnie keeps on winning and in the end he had won 16 races, two 2:nd, two 3:rd
and two 4:th places. He was going on to do such an unusual thing to finnish
every race he started. But it was not to be. In his 23:rd start at Montléry on
5:th of October, his clutch was sliding and he got away as 5:th. When he came
to the chikane on the second lap he got the sun in his eyes. He discovered too
late a slower competitor infront of him. He then turned out off the track and
rolled badly over the hay-bales. The car was upside down and on fire. But the
marshals quickly got him out of the car, but he was not racing more that year.
He was burned on his arms and wrists, but he said that he will be back next
year...
